Fleet Accountant

JOB ROLE:           Fleet Accountant

REPORTING TO:  Chief Accountant

DURATION:          Permanent

SALARY:              £43,000 - £50,000 + study support

A part-qualified accountant is required to take responsibility for accounting for a small fleet of vessels and also support the Group Reporting Accountant in the production of the Group monthly management accounts.

Responsibilities:

The Fleet Accountant will be allocated a fleet of vessels and their main responsibilities will include:

  • Preparation and monitoring of fleet’s weekly and monthly cash flows.

  • Maintaining each vessel’s fixed asset schedule, including recording of capital expenditure, Drydock expenditure and ensuring relevant depreciation in accordance to Group Accounting policies

  • Assisting with the preparation of statutory accounts under IFRS

  • Accounting for prepayments and accruals in relation to insurance premiums and administrative expenses

  • Reconciling Charter Hire for each period and analysing each vessels’ revenue.

  • Regular reconciliations of Balance Sheet accounts including bank reconciliations, inter-company reconciliations and other control accounts.

  • Liaising with technical department and third party vessel managers on matters including, but not limited to; monthly reports/accounts for each vessel, budget discussions, actual/budget variance analysis, cost allocations, insurance claims and funding.Month end: Reviewing of Trial Balances for each company to ensure accuracy before they are submitted to the Group Reporting Accountant.

  • Year end: Preparation of year end reporting packs and liaising with external auditors

  • Systems: being the Administrator for the accounting system by setting up new companies, nominal accounts, uploading annual budgets etc.

  • Assisting with ad hoc projects as may be required by the Chief Accountant /Group Reporting Accountant.

Key skills/attributes required:

  • Personal drive to succeed and an ability to prioritise tasks effectively so as to meet the goals of the team within agreed deadlines;

  • Currently studying to achieve a professional accounting qualification;

  • Able to work as a member of a team, supporting colleagues and developing good working relationships;

  • Good written and verbal communication skills;

  • Attention to detail;

  • Good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate confidently with all levels of management and staff.

Experience:

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years’ experience working in an accounting function within the shipping industry.
